The Star Casino ready to work on reform program

The Star Casino Sydney is ready to implement their reform program after they lost their gambling license earlier this month. In order to do so, an independent monitor is appointed by the gambling commission to keep an eye on the reforms of the Star casino. This reform should get the casino´s license back in the coming years.

The Star casino was found unsuitable to keep a gambling license, this was due to the lack of anti-money laundering and responsible gaming. After the gambling commission of New South Wales in Australia concluded they the company was unsuitable to keep its casino license, a lot of people expected the casino to close down. However, the casino is to big too fail. Too many employees of The Star Casino would lose their job. From the dealer of the Blackjack table to the workers at the restaurant. Thousands of people would lose their job overnight, that is why the casino can keep operating under strict supervision of the Gambling commission. Besides the Sydney casino of the Star, the Queensland Star casino The Star Gold Coast, was also found to be unsuitable to keep its casino license.

Allen & Overy consulting was appointed by The Star in August to come up with a renewal program for the company´s lack in anti-money laundering and responsible gaming. The scope of the program addresses the root causes of why the Star was not suitable for the gambling license and how to change its operations to get their license back.

Allen & Overy will follow the renewal program closely: “We will monitor developments closely in this respect, including by seeking input from the newly appointed Manager of The Star Sydney, as well as any other person(s) that may be appointed to a similar Manager role in relation to The Star Gold Coast and Treasury Brisbane.”
