The NSW casino regulator that the Star Casino in Sydney is allowed to keep its door opened for guests and people who like to have a gamble at the blackjack table or any other casino game. The decision to keep the daily operations going and to implement a supervisor from the NSW Casino commission, has everything to do with the size of the company.
The Star is employing thousands of people, in the situation of a close down of the casino, would mean that all these people would lose their job overnight. Which would be a disaster for all these employees and their families. This is the reason that the independent casino regulator cannot close down the entire casino.
“A big issue for us, to be frank, in this environment is that there is probably about 10,000 employees of the Star casino, and a lot of them rely on the income to pay their mortgages and raise their kids,” the NSICC chairman said.
In stead of closing down, the casino has to pay a fine of a hundred million Australian dollars. However, some criticists argue that the fine is not big enough and that a hundred million dollars is barely a slap on the wrist.
