Yggdrasil Names Former CEO of Funfair Games as the Chief Gaming Officer

Yggdrasil, the developer of industry-leading online Casino slot machines, has announced another experienced name to its senior-level team. On June 13, 2023, the company appointed Mark McGinley to the role of Chief Gaming Officer. In a press statement, the company believes the appointment will significantly help its newly merged Gaming department.

McGinley is a heavyweight in the gaming scene, bringing aboard over 25 years of expertise in the B2C and B2B sectors. He comes with a colourful CV in game development, product, and studio departments. Yggdrasil has praised him as an individual with “high business and commercial” motivation, with vast knowledge of the highly competitive iGaming industry.

Before taking up his new position at Yggdrasil Gaming, McGinley was the Chief Executive Officer at FunFair Games. Prior to joining FunFair Games, he held the position of Director of Game Studios at Entain, a gambling and betting giant with headquarters in the Isle of Man.

In addition, McGinley worked as the Program Director at RNG Foundry. Here, he played a crucial role in enabling independent studios to produce cutting-edge, engaging, and top-quality gaming content for the famous Games Global Platform. McGinley was also a member of the senior management group at RNG Foundry.

Lastly, McGinley held Game Studio positions at Casumo and Odobo before joining RNG Foundry. With such a portfolio, it’s evident that Yggdrasil has a managerial gem on its hands.

It’s also worth noting that McGinley’s appointment has coincided with the developer’s decision to combine its Product & Programs and Studio verticals. Yggdrasil plans to bring these services under one division called “Gaming”, and the new Chief Gaming Officer will be integral in implementing the plans.

The company says that this merger will help improve its business transparency, streamline business processes, and provide many operational advantages. Key areas that the company will be targeting include:

  • Improved product roadmap quality
  • Development process assurance
  • More agile content delivery
  • Enhanced cross-company knowledge exchange
  • A laser-like focus on player and operator needs

Commenting on his new appointment, McGinley said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining such an ambitious and forward- thinking business as Yggdrasil. I see huge potential ahead of us and I’m very confident we can move the business forward to compete at the highest level in the iGaming space. I’m truly excited about my new position and to be part of the exciting growth journey Yggdrasil embarked on 10 years ago.”

Björn Krantz, CEO of Yggdrasil, remarked: “It is perfect timing for Mark to join and head up our new Gaming unit at Yggdrasil, which will further strengthen our existing innovative and premium Global Roadmap Developments, as well as expand on the strategic product differentiation in tight collaboration with major industry operator partners. I welcome Mark to Yggdrasil and to our Senior Management team, and very much look forward to working together to take our global growth ambitions to the next level.”
