AHA NSW and Entain Australia announced a partnership to promote a digital wagering competition to the NSW hotels. In the New South Wales pubs there will be a promotion for online casinos Ladbrokes and Ned, which should provide an extra opportunity for pub holders.
Sportsbetting competition in New South Wales Hotels
Last update: May, 2024
John Whelan, CEO of AHA NSW, feels that this new partnership could bring a lot of advantages for hotels in New South Wales: “For decades now, many NSW hotels have operated PubTABs for Tabcorp at a significant loss – primarily due to high Sky Channel and EBT (betting terminal) fees. In country NSW it’s even worse, with the majority of country pubs currently running their PubTAB at a loss. Today’s partnership with a world leader in Entain will finally give NSW hotels competition and choice.” This competition should bring lower fees, which could result in hotels operating betting terminals at a profit.
The NSW pubs that accept this new sponsorship will be promoting Ladbrokes or Neds via in-venue advertising. Due to ongoing licenses, the pubs will continue operating the Tabcorp wageringmachines. At the moment there are over a 1000 NSW hotels that have a PubTAB in their venue. Probably operating at a loss, that is why this new sponsorship might be very interesting for these pubs.
Dean Shannon, CEO of Entain Australia, is also very satisfied about the new partnership which is going to promote two of Entain´s brands (Neds and Ladbrokes): “While there is still value in more traditional cash retail wagering, there is a highly engaged audience of punters who like to go down to their local for a bet with their mates, and how they do that has evolved.” Although a lot of punters are playing with their mates at a pub. A lot of punters also like to wager on spots at an online bookie, the new partnership could attract these customers to one of the Entain casinos.
