The establishment sitting next to Woodbine Racetrack is now one of Canada and North America’s “biggest” casino resorts. On Tuesday (June 20 at 17:00 ET), the property officially opened its state-of-the-art gaming floor and multiple dining options to the public. Canadian-American country pop performer, Lindsay Ell, was honoured to place the inaugural wager.
Gambling visitors will find 4,800 slot machines and 145 live table games inside the resort. The establishment also features VIP suites and sports betting kiosks on the massive 328,000-square-foot gaming area. Later this summer, the operator will launch a 400-room hotel with suites and rooms across 11 floors.
According to the officials of Great Canadian Entertainment in Toronto, this 32-acre establishment will “redefine” the entertainment industry in Canada.
The company’s CEO, Matthew Anfinson, commented: “We are thrilled to finally unveil Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto to the world. Our team has worked tirelessly for several years to create an entertainment experience that will leave a lasting impression on our guests.”
Anfinson added that launching the resort’s first phase is a thrilling experience for the company, and they cannot wait to reveal the next stage. He took this opportunity to announce that the next phase will include The Theatre and Hotel, which should be ready in the next few months and weeks.
Later this year, the venue will launch a wellness centre with an indoor steam room, pool, sauna, and gym equipment. As Canadians await this launch, the operator is dead set to open a 5,000-person capacity entertainment arena in the upcoming months. This facility will offer a destination for live performances in music, comedy, and other special events.
According to the firm, art lovers will appreciate the resort’s commitment to public art. The company will invest a whooping C$5 million in artwork pieces to be displayed throughout the venue. And to provide diverse and equitable art representation, Great Canadian has set up a jury of artists and local community leaders to sit in the art selection process.
In addition, the second-largest green roof in the country, measuring 250,000 square feet, is on display at the casino resort. The company plans to reduce the site’s carbon impact by installing solar panel canopies and electric vehicle parking spaces for environmentally-conscious visitors.
An official statement from Great Canadian reads:
“The resort is creating a significant economic impact, with an investment of approximately CAD 1 billion ($758.5 million) and an estimated CAD 500 million ($379.2 million) in economic benefit for Ontario.
“Moreover, nearly 2,000 team members will be employed, contributing to job growth and prosperity in the region. The City of Toronto has received more than CAD 357 million ($270.8 million) as its share of gaming revenue since the introduction of Casino Woodbine.”
